Haralick-87] is an introduction to mathematical morphology based multiresolution theory. Several algorithms using this framework are presented in [Liang-93]. Peleg et al. proposed a hybrid spatial and gray level multiresolution scheme in which the two aspects of the image are not treated independently, as opposed to the classic multiresolution scheme where sampling and smoothing are performed in a serial manner [Peleg-89].
